About me

Hi, I'm Dawn. I talk like a friend who happens to know the tech.

Yes, I'm the person who gets excited about a tidy to-do list. No, I'm not sorry. Twenty years in IT taught me one thing: when your notes are all in one place, Monday gets a lot less scary.

Where my credibility comes from

22 years in IT at the NEC

Before AI was on anyone's radar, I was putting new systems into one of the UK's biggest events venues and making sure people could actually use them.

I worked in IT at the NEC in Birmingham from 1986 to 2008, in IT support and IT service delivery, as IT Support Manager.

I put in catering systems and EPOS systems: the tills and payment systems. Then I showed the chefs how to use the new catering software, plainly and step by step. Busy people, no time for jargon, and a new system they'd never seen before. Tough customers, believe me.

That's where I learned that a new system is only half the job. The other half is planning it properly, testing it before it goes live, training the people who'll use it, and being there when something needs fixing.

After the NEC, I went on to several IT project management roles. I still work exactly the same way. Now the system just happens to be AI.

The story so far

From tills and chefs to AI receptionists

Every step has been about the same thing: making technology simple for people who never asked to be technical.

  1. 1986 to 2008

IT Support Manager, the NEC, Birmingham

22 years of IT support and IT service delivery. Catering systems and EPOS systems put in, and the chefs trained to use them.

  2. After the NEC

    IT project management

Several IT project management roles, taking new systems from plan to live.

  3. Alongside

Designs, logos and a website with bookings

Logos, posters and leaflets for local businesses, and a website and booking system for a shooting ground.

  4. Etsy

    A shop built from scratch

Print-on-demand mugs, all my own designs made in Canva. About 2,400 sold, and I'm an Etsy Star Seller.

  5. 2023 onwards

    AI, every day

I started with ChatGPT in 2023 and moved to Claude in 2026. I've built apps and websites with Claude Code and Base 44, and set up AI helpers and scheduled tasks for my own businesses.

  6. Now

    Founder, Sorted with AI

Setting up AI for small businesses: website refreshes, AI receptionists and the everyday jobs nobody wants. I'm a member of Sabrina Stocker's AI Profits school.

What I believe

A few things I'll always stand by

You don't need to be techy

That's my job. You tell me what's driving you mad, and I sort out the tech side.

Plain English wins

Plain English beats clever words every time. Nobody should ever feel daft for asking.

Small steps beat big plans

A small step this week beats a big plan you never start. And a laugh makes the hard bits easier.
